PUSH Opening Party with Kimmortal & Immigrant Lessons

On January 17, Sammy Chien will be sharing a new visual projection experiment as part of PUSH Festival’s Official Afterparty. It was created in collaboration with Chimerik似不像’s new intern, Ivan So, and in support of Kimmortal and Immigrant Lessons’ new project ‘X Marks the Movement’. Sammy is very honoured to share experimental ideas with these amazing, local, grassroots artists—seeds of bigger ideas to come!

Queer Filipinx artist, Kimmortal, and art-fashion-dance collective, Immigrant Lessons, combine their respective media in selections from ‘X Marks the Movement’, a story-based show that plays with the concept of map-making in order to re-frame narratives of home and diaspora. This exciting new collaboration incorporates music, art and dance; directed by Kevin Fraser and Alyssa Amarshi; songs written and produced by Kimmortal; and experimental visual projection by Chimerik似不像—in collective acts of resistance. The story explores what it means for its characters to be in relationship with each other as diasporic artists of colour on unceded Indigenous land. Militant and musically ingratiating, this is a performance designed to move the crowd and change the conversation

Joining Kimmortal & Immigrant Lessons at the Opening Party will be The Darlings. They will animate the space at Beaumont Studios with pop-up performances where conceptual theatre and modern drag come together.
