Pride In Chinatown 2019

A queer Asian night curated by pioneer media artist Paul Wong + MY BIRTHDAY!

Super stoked to be part of Pride in Chinatown this year! I’ll be repping Chimerik似不像 in a brand new and unusual format––a mini-durational, performance art piece weaving qi gong (Nature Centre Gong自然中心功) with Ivan So, my last intern student who happens to have 10 years+ of martial arts training (Northern Shaolin 北少林). The performance will be set to a structural improv/contemporary movement score and feature special guest artist: Jackson Wai Chung Tse.

Jackson and I share a birthday on August 1st, so join us for a double birthday celebration!

Please get your tickets asap! The event sold out quickly last year with many turned away at the door. Let me know if you’d like me to RSVP you as my friend (discounted tickets). Hoping to see some of you there!

August 1, 2019, 7PM – 11PM

50 East Pender St, Vancouver, BC.

One night only, a magical twilight event in a spectacular setting in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Chinatown. This very special event will take over Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park, the Classical Chinese Garden and public plaza. Pride in Chinatown celebrates queer Asian-Canadian art and artists who will tantalize all five of your senses.

It has been 50 years since the start of decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada and the Stonewall riots in New York City, which triggered the modern day Pride Movement. Pride in Chinatown will be a momentous and historic festival for LGBTQ2 people, our allies, friends and family. We’ll be loud and proud in Chinatown!

Presented by On Main Gallery, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and Vancouver Art and Leisure as part of Alternative Pride Vancouver 2019. This will be an interdisciplinary art experience, featuring new, experimental and traditional art forms which include electronic music, immersive theatre, media art installations, lion dancing, martial arts, drums, opera, culinary treats, drag and other non-binary encounters.

Artists include:

House of Rice,

Onibana Taiko

DJ Which Nancy

Rachel Iwaasa

Chimerik 似不像

The Chau Luen Athletic Club
