Sammy will be sharing segments of his work as part of Centre A’s fundraiser called Off Keefer as a thank you for past support of his artistic practice.
In May 2018 Sammy was the inaugural artist-in-residence in Centre A’s new media gallery where he researched his new solo work: W(e)aves. W(e)aves is an ongoing research/creation of a solo performance work that investigates migration, race politics, transcultural identity, queerness and spiritual philosophies, integrating digital technologies, audiovisuals, ancient Chinese text, contemporary dance and qi-gong.
As part of Off Keefer Sammy will share an interactive installation of W(e)aves––a small segment of the larger project. There will also be visual captures of a live-audiovisual performance from the Sounds Like This Festival in Leeds in March 2018 where Sammy collaborated with UK-based composer, Ambrose Field.
Centre A’s 20th Anniversary Fundraiser
April 11, 2019, 7–11pm
Centre A was founded twenty years ago to support the creation and appreciation of contemporary Asian art. As we celebrate our anniversary, we continue to champion multidisciplinary practice and showcase the range of artistic disciplines that Asian artists are active in. With our new space at 268 at Keefer Street, we are reconceptualizing what a public gallery can be—made possible only with your support. Please join us as we present Off Keefer, a cabaret-style fundraiser featuring live local performance artists that are breaking stereotypes and shaking up the visual arts world. It will be an evening of celebrating and reimagining the experiences and expression of Asian diasporic communities within the arts.
